Museum of the Home (formerly the Geffrye Museum)

We are excited to finally get back on site next week at the Museum of the Home (previously the Geffrye Museum). The museum is undergoing major refurbishment and expansion, with 80% more space for exhibitions and collections. Happily, the famous period rooms are being retained and ‘refreshed’.

We will be moving their entire collection into new stores that have been built on site, in preparation for the install of the collection into the soon to be completed refurbished galleries and buildings. Both the museum and the building contractors have established detailed protocol for ensuring the safest possible working environment in the current circumstances, and we have developed full Covid-19 risk assessments and method statements for both working in the studio and on site. It will be interesting to see how these new Covid-19 precautions will work in practice, but as you know being ‘socially distanced’ whilst wearing masks and gloves is what conservators were born to do.
